December is the month of the year you want to take a few moments and reflect back on what you accomplished the past year, review the challenges you were faced and try not to get caught up on dwelling on what might have been. Sometimes the reflection period hinders your plans for the New Year.
2011 looks good so far to me, with new growth opportunities with our National Magazine the Canadian Design & Construction Report gaining more traction with each issue. Our next one will be out in January and will be focusing on “Awards” with some profiles from the recent Wood WORKS! Awards Gala in November as well as the Concrete Awards. The national publication has taken on more project profiles specific to architects which is an expanding market for me in comparison to the existing publications we have been doing for over 20 years. This new niche is very targeted and the magazine format seems to better suit the needs of the clients vs. the tabloid newspaper format.
Next up in 2011 is our Gold Sponsorship of the 7th Annual OGCA Symposium in Collingwood. This relationship wit the OGCA has grown each year and has allowed us to connect with its members providing coverage on their projects and accomplishments. Clive Thurston and the team at the office provide us great editorial content, industry training information as well a great venue to market our publications.
What else does 2011 hold? Great question, the most important thing is the maintaining of existing relationships with local and provincial associations. The key here has been providing coverage and developing a relationship more about what I can offer vs. what I want from them. The associations are a great way to meet potential clients who in return become contract advertisers or provide great projects to profile.
What are your plans for 2011? Is your company expanding to a new region in Ontario or are you moving to a new province? What projects are you working on or awards have you received in recognition of your hard work? Share your news and projects and I can provide great coverage locally in our regional papers the GTA Construction Report or Ottawa Construction News, provincial in the Ontario Construction Report or nationally with the Canadian Design & Construction Report.
