Habitat and Construction News and Report Group Establish New Partnership

St.Catharines, ON – Today, Habitat for Humanity Niagara and the Construction News and Report Group have established a new partnership to increase awareness for the need for support of in-kind products and donations from companies associated with the construction industry in the Niagara Region. Through the new partnership the Construction News and Report Group will be working with Habitat to produce several informative feature articles for the next year in effort to help increase donations of materials and monetary support from leading construction professionals across Niagara Region.

As part of their coverage and support the Construction News and Report Group will be offering an extra incentive in the months of June, August and November to members of the construction industry who make donations of materials and money. Each month, when a company donates to Habitat for Humanity they will receive 10 per cent of the value of the goods donated (up to $150) towards an advertising credit in the local paper covering Niagara, The GTA Construction Report. As well, members of the Niagara Construction Association and Niagara Home Builders Association which donate will be entered into a draw to win a $1,500 company profile for the months of June, August and December in 2009.

Chase, Director of Marketing and Client Relations for the Construction News and Report Group said: “Supporting Habitat and helping increase awareness of the great work they do is a very important part of our community coverage. They provide more than just homes, they provide hope. The task becomes a lot easier when many great construction companies across Niagara lend support. I know that this will be a long lasting partnership.”

Craig Fowler, Director of Development for Habitat Niagara applauds this initiative and remarks, “During these poor economic times, the need for affordable housing continues to grow. Partnering with members of our construction community will allow us to leverage additional resources and continue to build more homes, and serve more families in need. We are grateful for this unique partnership with the Construction News and Report Group and feel this opportunity will bring great incremental value to our donors. ” Habitat Niagara encourages area contractors, developers, designers and home renovators to get involved and experience for themselves the positive transformations that occur through our unique home ownership program.

About Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity Niagara is an independent, not-for-profit housing organization dedicated to the elimination of poverty by building homes in partnership with families in need. We build safe, decent, and affordable houses and provide no down payment, interest-free mortgages to qualifying families who would otherwise not be able to purchase their own home. Habitat is not a giveaway program; we provide "a hand up not a handout". Qualifying families contribute sweat equity hours through involvement with Habitat or other community charitable endeavours.

Established locally in 1993, Habitat has constructed 28 homes in Niagara. We are a member of Habitat for Humanity Canada; part of a worldwide network that spans more than 90 countries, has built over 300,000 homes, and is now building a new home every 24 minutes. New era at BCA

As the Barrie Construction Association (BCA) ushers in a new era, it promises a future of fun and gains.

“This is a very exciting time here at the BCA,” says new administrative director Alison Smith. “We have two new staff members and, as of last week, a new board of directors.”

Although Smith started with the BCA more than a year ago, she took over the top staff position eight months ago after Barb Rousseau vacated the position. Rousseau, who saw the organization through its start-up and expansion, was the BCA executive director for 17 years.

Now settled into her new position, Smith’s mandate is to re-evaluate the varying functions of the association and position it for future growth.

Smith says her goal is to run the office professionally and make sure “we fulfill the members’ needs,” says Smith.

A primary focus is the plans room.
