Upswing in Construction Across Niagara

Construction activity is on the upswing in Ontario's Niagara Region, mirroring the trend across Canada.

Statistics Canada reported Monday July 7th that $33.3 million (Canadian) in building permits were filed in the St. Catharines-Niagara metropolitan area in May. That was up 5.3 percent from $31.6 million (Canadian) in April.

The St. Catharines-Niagara metro roughly follows the boundaries of the Niagara Region. It includes the communities of St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, Fort Erie, Thorold and Welland.
National trends were also higher, according to the Statistics Canada report. Canadian contractors took out $6.6 billion (Canadian) in building permits in May, up 1.1 percent from April. It was the nation's highest value for permits since October 2007.
Proof of this upswing can be seen in the August issue of the GTA Construction Report in the Niagara section highlighting three great projects:
New Harley Davidson Dealership being built by M. Losier Design and two LEED certified projects built by Merit Contractors.
